SUMMARY:2nd Annual Georgia Cities Week Postcard Design Contest - City of Gainesville Public Relations
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Georgia Cities Week April 20-25\, sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA)\, the City of Gainesville is starting the fun early by opening its second annual Georgia Cities Week Postcard Design Contest to children and teens ages 5-17. The winning design\, which should represent Gainesville\, will be used as an official City of Gainesville postcard distributed to the public at City events and via the Gainesville Welcome Center. \nTo help get the creative juices flowing\, GMA has announced the 2026 Georgia Cities Week theme is “Love Your City”. The statewide event invites residents to celebrate their city governments\, community achievements and the essential services cities provide every day. \nThe contest is FREE to enter and\, in addition to having their art “travel” around the world\, the first-place winner will also receive a $30 voucher to Kilwins Gainesville and a certificate of achievement! \nTo enter\, simply grab any 4-inch-by-6-inch piece of paper. Designs may be vertical or horizontal. Make it your finest work of art yet and be sure to include your full name (first and last)\, age\, grade and telephone number with the submission. Artists must be residents of Gainesville-Hall County. The winner will be announced and the postcards released during Georgia Cities Week\, so entries must be received by no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday\, April 1. Box 2496\, Gainesville\, GA 30503; or sent electronically via Messenger to the official City of Gainesville\, Georgia Facebook page. SUMMARY:Homeschool Intensive: World War II - NEGA History Center
DESCRIPTION:Homeschool Intensive: World War II\nThursday\, March 19th | 10:30 AM; 12:15 PM \nLed by Historian Glen Kyle \nThe intensive classes are in lieu of the regular monthly Homeschool Day\, students grades 6th-12th ONLY. Pre-registration is required. There will be a small free activity for the younger siblings of those families who wish to wait instead of dropping off their student.\nTwo class options are available (each class is capped at 30 students to ensure a quality experience) – tickets available for each or both classes. \nPLEASE EXAMINE THE CLASS AND TICKET OPTIONS CAREFULLY \nClass 1: 10:30AM – Homefront and Battlefront: American in WWII\nThe United States entered World War II after a decade of isolationism\, desperate to avoid another global conflict. Draw in by the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941\, it fought on every continent and emerged a nuclear superpower.  Using real objects from the time\, this class will examine the American experience of soldiers\, sailors\, and airmen overseas as well as the lives of those on the home front who sacrificed and fought for liberty around the world. \nClass 2: 12:15PM – Allied for Victory: Great Britain and the Soviet Union in WWII\nThe United States certainly didn’t win WWII on its own; indeed\, it was only a single nation in the “Big Three” that also included England and Russia.  Only by working together were the main allies able to defeat the Germans and Japanese\, but only with great sacrifice. Through real historical objects from both countries\, we’ll explore the individual British and Soviet soldier’s experiences\, and properly contextualize their contributions alongside those of the United States. \nPre-Registration Link Now Open!

SUMMARY:Voices for Community - Brenau University
DESCRIPTION:Voices for Community is a special event hosted by the Miller Institute for Global Education to celebrate the many cultures and countries represented at Brenau University. \nAt the Miller Institute\, we believe that learning goes beyond the classroom. Our campus is filled with students from different parts of the world\, each bringing their own traditions\, experiences\, and perspectives. This event creates a space where those cultures can be shared\, appreciated\, and celebrated together. \nThe Miller Institute not only supports international students\, but also creates opportunities for domestic students to learn about the world around them. We want students to discover new cultures\, understand different ways of life\, and grow as global citizens without even leaving campus. \nWe are organizing this event to strengthen connections between students and to build a stronger sense of community. When we come together through music\, food\, art\, and conversation\, we grow not only as students\, but as future leaders. \nThe theme of the event is peace and love. Our goal is for everyone to feel welcomed\, respected\, and proud of where they come from. Voices for Community is a reminder that even though we may come from different places\, we all belong here at Brenau.
