SUMMARY:2nd Annual Georgia Cities Week Postcard Design Contest - City of Gainesville Public Relations
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Georgia Cities Week April 20-25\, sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA)\, the City of Gainesville is starting the fun early by opening its second annual Georgia Cities Week Postcard Design Contest to children and teens ages 5-17. The winning design\, which should represent Gainesville\, will be used as an official City of Gainesville postcard distributed to the public at City events and via the Gainesville Welcome Center. \nTo help get the creative juices flowing\, GMA has announced the 2026 Georgia Cities Week theme is “Love Your City”. The statewide event invites residents to celebrate their city governments\, community achievements and the essential services cities provide every day. \nThe contest is FREE to enter and\, in addition to having their art “travel” around the world\, the first-place winner will also receive a $30 voucher to Kilwins Gainesville and a certificate of achievement! \nTo enter\, simply grab any 4-inch-by-6-inch piece of paper. Designs may be vertical or horizontal. Make it your finest work of art yet and be sure to include your full name (first and last)\, age\, grade and telephone number with the submission. Artists must be residents of Gainesville-Hall County. The winner will be announced and the postcards released during Georgia Cities Week\, so entries must be received by no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday\, April 1. Box 2496\, Gainesville\, GA 30503; or sent electronically via Messenger to the official City of Gainesville\, Georgia Facebook page. Questions and comments may be submitted to Mrs. Santee-Moss via the City’s website.

SUMMARY:Dempsey Dash 2026 - Brenau University
DESCRIPTION:On March 14\, Brenau University will host its annual Dempsey Dash 5K and 1K Fun Run in memory of the university’s long-time executive vice president and CFO\, Wayne Dempsey. The event benefits the Wayne W. Dempsey Endowed Scholarship Fund\, first funded in Dempsey’s memory in 2014 by an anonymous donor. \nOfficial Dempsey Dash T-shirts provided for all pre-registered participants by February 20. All other registered participants through race day will receive shirt while supplies last. \nWhy A Bowtie?\nThose who knew Dr. Dempsey remember him as quite the clotheshorse. Always dressed to the nines\, he had a reputation for impeccable style. He was almost always seen around campus in a well-coordinated suit and tie or a fashionable sport coat. Even his sons recall him as a younger man cutting the grass in a pair of penny loafers! It’s unclear exactly how his signature bow tie habit began. His older son claims to have started wearing bow ties in the late 80s\, forging his own fashion identity. The elder Dempsey\, admiring the look\, decided to give them a try himself. Taking it a step further\, Dr. Dempsey even sought out lessons to learn how to tie them properly. He and his son spent hours practicing and mastering the skill. From there\, the trademark look was born. Dr. Dempsey frequently sported bow ties in his daily professional life\, and they became his calling card. After his passing\, his sons inherited his tie collection\, and one continues to wear the bow ties today. In this way\, the bow tie has become a unique and touching way to remember a great and unique man \nWhen to pick up participant bags or shirts?\nSaturday\, at registration/check-in.
