SUMMARY:2nd Annual Georgia Cities Week Postcard Design Contest - City of Gainesville Public Relations
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Georgia Cities Week April 20-25\, sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA)\, the City of Gainesville is starting the fun early by opening its second annual Georgia Cities Week Postcard Design Contest to children and teens ages 5-17. The winning design\, which should represent Gainesville\, will be used as an official City of Gainesville postcard distributed to the public at City events and via the Gainesville Welcome Center. \nTo help get the creative juices flowing\, GMA has announced the 2026 Georgia Cities Week theme is “Love Your City”. The statewide event invites residents to celebrate their city governments\, community achievements and the essential services cities provide every day. \nThe contest is FREE to enter and\, in addition to having their art “travel” around the world\, the first-place winner will also receive a $30 voucher to Kilwins Gainesville and a certificate of achievement! \nTo enter\, simply grab any 4-inch-by-6-inch piece of paper. Designs may be vertical or horizontal. Make it your finest work of art yet and be sure to include your full name (first and last)\, age\, grade and telephone number with the submission. Artists must be residents of Gainesville-Hall County. The winner will be announced and the postcards released during Georgia Cities Week\, so entries must be received by no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday\, April 1. This will give City staff enough time to appropriately judge all entries\, then have the top design printed. \nEntries may be dropped off in person any time from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Gainesville Welcome Center in suite 100 of the Gainesville Administration Building\, located at 300 Henry Ward Way\, Gainesville; mailed to the Gainesville Public Relations Department\, attn: Public Relations Director Christina Santee-Moss\, P.O. Box 2496\, Gainesville\, GA 30503; or sent electronically via Messenger to the official City of Gainesville\, Georgia Facebook page. DESCRIPTION:Lyman Hall Chapter Georgia SAR and the Colonel William Candler Chapter National Society DAR invite you to attend a ceremony celebrating the 294th Anniversary of the Birth of President George Washington on Sunday\, February 22nd\, 2026\, at 3:00 PM at the Washington Monument at the corner of Green and Washington Streets. \n212 Washington Street\, Gainesville\, Georgia\, 30501 \nGPS N34° 18.036 W083° 49.547 \nThe one hour program will include: \n\nWreathes will be placed around the monument by various chapter of the Sons\, Daughters\, and Children of the American Revolution and other lineage groups\nA color guard will present and post the colors (various revolutionary flags) with muskets attending\nThe Pledge of Allegiance and lineage group pledges will be recited\nA “Wreath Presentation” will be made by which representatives of various groups show honor to President Washington\nA speaker will be invited to present a brief talk about Washington\nA benediction will be given\, the flags will be retired\, and the SAR Recessional will be given\nThe color guard will reform at the monument to provide a backdrop for pictures with the public and lineage groups in attendance\n\n \n**The photo above was taken at the 293rd Anniversary of the Birth of President Georgia Washington. The photo includes the young woman (center\, blue blazer) whose design was chosen for the new Georgia default license plate! She will be recognized as the designer at the Georgia State Capitol this month!**
