DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Georgia Cities Week April 20-25\, sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA)\, the City of Gainesville is starting the fun early by opening its second annual Georgia Cities Week Postcard Design Contest to children and teens ages 5-17. The winning design\, which should represent Gainesville\, will be used as an official City of Gainesville postcard distributed to the public at City events and via the Gainesville Welcome Center. \nTo help get the creative juices flowing\, GMA has announced the 2026 Georgia Cities Week theme is “Love Your City”. The statewide event invites residents to celebrate their city governments\, community achievements and the essential services cities provide every day. \nThe contest is FREE to enter and\, in addition to having their art “travel” around the world\, the first-place winner will also receive a $30 voucher to Kilwins Gainesville and a certificate of achievement! \nTo enter\, simply grab any 4-inch-by-6-inch piece of paper. Designs may be vertical or horizontal. Make it your finest work of art yet and be sure to include your full name (first and last)\, age\, grade and telephone number with the submission. Artists must be residents of Gainesville-Hall County. The winner will be announced and the postcards released during Georgia Cities Week\, so entries must be received by no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday\, April 1. This will give City staff enough time to appropriately judge all entries\, then have the top design printed. \nEntries may be dropped off in person any time from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Gainesville Welcome Center in suite 100 of the Gainesville Administration Building\, located at 300 Henry Ward Way\, Gainesville; mailed to the Gainesville Public Relations Department\, attn: Public Relations Director Christina Santee-Moss\, P.O. Box 2496\, Gainesville\, GA 30503; or sent electronically via Messenger to the official City of Gainesville\, Georgia Facebook page. Proceeds directly support the Mark Williams Scholarship Fund for Lake Lanier Rowing Club youth rowers who have financial need. The LLRC team wants to remain accessible to all youth in the North Georgia region\, and events like the Mark Williams Ergatta help us do so. Scholarship funds help offset the cost of semester dues\, competition expenses\, and uniforms for recipients. Every entry helps support our youth rowers. \nHere’s what to expect: \n\nRowing Events for All Levels: From Masters and Junior competitors to Open events\, the competition offers opportunities for athletes to shine at every stage of their journey.\nOpen Team Relays: Local fitness gyms and functional fitness groups compete head-to-head to test strength and endurance\, rowing for pride and bragging rights.\nFirst Responders 911m Event: A unique\, high-energy 911-meter event where firehouses and other first responder teams compete for the title of North Georgia’s strongest.\nSurvivERG Cancer Survivors Event: A non-competitive event celebrating the progress and resilience of individuals impacted by cancer through their participation in rowing.\nAwards: The top three competitors in each event will receive medals for their efforts.\n\nIf you cannot compete\, please consider donating to the team to help us further our mission!
